OUR ADVICE FOR PROPERLY USING THE SUBTEX 140
Phase 1 : Preparing for installation
HARVESTING DRY FORAGE
You must first harvest your fodder in the best possible conditions :
- stable weather
- dry fodder (% DM higher than 85%)
- perfectly adjusted baling machine to create uniform bales that will hold up over time (round or square bales)
STACKING BALLS
You must then stack the balls, to do so choose a flat place.
Here are some obligations for your pile:
- Consider putting the bales on pallets to ventilate the bottom of the pile
- Well exposed to the sun (not near a forest, a hedge, a building)
- Position the longitudinal part of your stack in the NORTH-SOUTH axis so that both sides are exposed to the sun
- Finally stack your balls creating a pyramid shape with an angle of 45°
THE RIGHT SIZE OF SUBTEX 140
Once your stack has been made, you must determine the size of your tarpaulin by measuring your pile or using our correspondence table (LINK : SUBTEX 140 Configurator)
Best practice N°1
The fleece must always be in tension!
OUR ADVICE FOR PROPERLY USING THE SUBTEX 140
Phase 2 : Setting up the fleece
Our advice
Unfold and install your SUBTEX 140 on the stack.
The SUBTEX 140 fleece has a smooth side and a rough side, the smooth side must be placed towards the outside and the rough side on the forage side. To help you, the inscription: “This face down” written at the bottom of the fabric must be against the fodder. The seams are found on the outside of the pile.
Weight your SUBTEX 140 using VELCRO or CLACPACK fastening system.
The CLACPACK must take 7 to 8 kg maximum, i.e. 2 CLACPACK per gravelbag
A 1,60m strip of VELCRO can hold 15kg, or a gravelbag.
The ballasts/weights must be spaced approximately 2m apart in order to create permanent tension in the SUBTEX 140 fabric.
The ballasts/weights must not touch the ground and remain in constant tension throughout the storage period.
Once your stack is made: check your SUBTEX 140 fleeces regularly, you must also ensure that the ballast remains in constant tension and does not touch the ground.
OUR ADVICE FOR PROPERLY USING THE SUBTEX 140
Phase 3 : SUBTEX 140 storage
After use, we advise you to store your SUBTEX 140 protected from UV rays and rodents in a dry, sheltered place, on a pallet.
